The Beobachtergruppe (observers' group) at the observatory of the Deutsches Museum presents captivating views and deep insights into "Nocturnal Worlds". The special exhibition with large-format astrophotographs is complemented by selected astronomy works from the library and a technology showcase.

26 October 2024 to 19 October 2025, Library anteroom

The nocturnal world with its starry sky has always fascinated mankind. Whether wandering planets or twinkling stars, nature offers many works of art even in the dark of night. Even the sun, our home star, likes to show itself in the best light. The observation team at the German Museum has succeeded in capturing many a celestial phenomenon in the nocturnal landscape. We invite you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the nocturnal worlds and be enchanted by these moments.

A total of 20 large-format photographs are on display. The photographs are complemented by relevant books on the subject from the library. The exhibition begins with a number of publications on the sun and moon. These include the photographic documentation of a research trip to the Auckland Islands (for the purpose of observing Venus passing in front of the sun in 1874) and various publications on the development of moon photography. There is also a technical display case with showpieces from astronomy and the photography department.

From 26 October 2024, you can immerse yourself in the "Nocturnal Worlds" in the anteroom of the library for almost a year. The pictures will be replaced every four months and the display cases will also be regularly restocked. Guided tours and astrophotography workshops are also planned.
