Bridges, tunnels, canals, dams and stadium roofs – the list of civil engineering structures is long. However, bridges in particular are seen as the supreme discipline due to their ever-increasing spans. They have to carry enormous forces, need to be built economically and, ideally, should be “beautiful”, too. On this guided tour, you will learn how creative engineers are constantly finding new solutions to this problem – something that has fascinated mankind for thousands of years.

Over, under and across – the Bridges and Hydraulic Engineering exhibition presents engineering at its finest. A highlight is walking across the 27-metre-long suspension bridge made of steel and glass that stretches across the entire exhibition hall. Visitors can experience how knowledge from the natural sciences is put into practice in civil engineering with numerous original exhibits, from historical water pipes to bridge cables, lifelike models, detailed dioramas, informative media stations and interactive demonstrations.

When will this event take place?

Discover which activities are taking place by checking our daily programme, which is published at around 9.20 each day. Our programme changes daily and includes guided tours, demonstrations, science shows and hands-on activities for individual visitors and small groups of up to five people. All programme events are held in German. They begin either directly where the activity is set to take place or at a guided-tour meeting point in the relevant exhibition.
