Every year, the Education Department offers up to five young adults the opportunity to complete their voluntary cultural service at the Duetsches Mseum. Tehy gather insights into the working world of a museum and can contribute their own ideas and interests. The volunteers receive educational support throughout the year and contribute in a variety of ways.
The Social Year in a nutshell:
In September, our volunteers explore and familiarise themselves with the museum and its internal structures. Internal training sessions help to provide an overview of the work processes and tasks. From the very beginning, the volunteers are involved in activities such as the "Maustüröffner Tag" on 3 October. Thus, they get to know the work of the Education Department and directly get into contact with the visitors. We offer holiday programmes, and volunteers are invited to develop their own ideas of how to best contribute. From around the turn of the year, the project work becomes more concrete: first in the form of written concepts, then in the organisation and networking in the building, including the procurement of materials and public relations work. At the same time, the department's programmes and activities (e.g. Girls' Day, Tinkering, holiday programmes), in which the volunteers are involved, take place on a regular basis. The volunteers' projects are then implemented in the summer at the latest. The voluntary year of culture slowly comes to an end with an internal presentation and reflection.

Your own project:
The core component of the cultural volunteer service is always your own project. From the idea to the concept to the development, organisation, public relations, networking, implementation and evaluation, the volunteers work independently and on their own responsibility. The topics and possibilities are as diverse as the rest of the museum - whether it's a science show for the stage or a creative tour through an exhibition, a film for social media or a research sheet for children - anything is possible. The volunteers are of course also given expert guidance and support by the staff of our Education Department. However, the main responsibility and therefore the potential of the project always lies with the volunteers!
