The Eurofighter is one of the most advanced high-performance combat aircraft. The first operational aircraft was delivered to the German Air Force in 2003, which will receive 140 at last. The Eurofighter has been designed and built in a joint effort by the four European countries Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain. They have ordered a total of 472 Eurofighters.Another 15 Eurofighters are for Austria, 72 for Saudi Arabia, 12 for Oman und 28 for Kuwait.
The prototype DA 1 started on its maiden flight in Manching in 1994.In Manching, the final assembly for the German aircraft and the flight test center of Airbus Defence & Space are located.During its twelve years in service, the prototype performed 578 flights with about 500 flight hours. They provided important findings for safe flight operation and served, in particular, for optimizing the complex digital flight control. The aircraft also performed several inflight refuelling exercises, as well as icing tests.The last flight took place on 21 December 2005.
