Regularly featured in our daily program, the Supra-Glider is showcased. As a visitor, you can board the rail vehicle, which hovers above the tracks and glides without contact.
At first glance, the demonstration setup at the Traffic Center of the Deutsches Museum may seem unspectacular, but it showcases a revolutionary technology with a promising future: a magnetic levitation train based on high-temperature superconductivity.
While other magnetic levitation trains can reach speeds beyond 600 km/h, the Supra-Glider at the Traffic Center moves at a much more leisurely pace. During demonstrations, museum staff give the sled, which can carry two passengers, a gentle push—and the sled then glides smoothly back and forth along the short track. You can feel the floating sensation—no rolling resistance, no surface irregularities.
Due to the strong magnetic field of the tracks, persons with pacemakers or metallic implants cannot participate in the demonstration.
